Cytology test
Cytology is an analysis of cells from the cervical canal and cervix, aimed at prevention and early detection of precancerous conditions and cervical cancer. It is a simple, safe and painless examination performed by a gynecologist or midwife.
Preparation for cytology test includes:
- Performing the test no earlier than 4 days after menstruation ends and no later than 4 days before expected menstruation.
- Discontinuing vaginal medications at least 4 days before the test.
- Not performing cultures, cervical swabs, gynecological examinations and transvaginal ultrasound 24 hours before the test.
- Avoiding sexual intercourse 24 hours before the test.
Cytology test procedure:
- Insertion of a speculum into the vagina.
- Collection of a swab from the cervix using a special brush.
- Preparation of a smear on a slide.
- Microscopic analysis of the material.
Waiting time for results is 15 working days.
Liquid-based cytology (LBC) This is a method based on thin-layer technology, which ensures greater accuracy than traditional cytology. The swab is collected with a brush and placed in a liquid medium.
Preparation for LBC test:
- We recommend performing tests between the 10th and 18th day of the cycle.
- Sexual intercourse should be avoided 24 hours before the test.
- On the day of the test, do not perform vaginal douching.
